Little is known about the environmental distribution of clinically relevant antibiotic resistant bacteria in Africa. In this project, Nigerian wetlands were investigated as potential reservoirs of carbapenem-resistant bacteria. Four urban wetlands in Lagos and Ibadan were sampled October 2014 through January 2015. The wetlands receive raw sewage and are within the catchment area of municipal water supply systems.
