VPRS 5331 Judgement Book

This series records the judgments made by the civil jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in cases brought before it. Details given are the number of the case, the names of the plaintiff and the defendant, the date the case was heard, the verdict and the damages, if any, awarded by the Court. Further provision is made to record the award of costs and any details relevant to writs of fi.fa (fieri facias) or ca.sa (capias ad satisfaciendum) which may have been issued to ensure the payment of the judgement amount. Final details available are the names of the counsel appearing for each party to the action, the amount of the levy and the date of the return of the writ and satisfaction when entered.Between 1841 and 1854 the initiation of an action was recorded in VPRS 5328 Action / Cause Books and the subsequent details pertaining to the action were recorded in VPRS 5331 Judgement Books. From 1854, all of these details pertaining to an action were recorded in VPRS 5328 Action / Cause Books.
