资源简介:
In April 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the Michigan Bureau of History, Office of the State Archaeologist, and the Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG) Headquarters in Lansing to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on National Guard facilities in the state. Information from this research includes the history of cultural investigations on federally owned or federally supported MIARNG facilities and provides a list of historic buildings recorded within facility boundaries. Additionally, historic contexts and the potential utility of predictive models are discussed, and a list is provided of Native American tribes that may be culturally affiliated with archaeological collections recovered from MIARNG facilities. To date, several archaeological surveys have been conducted on Fort Custer, and 15 prehistoric and historic archaeological sites were given state site numbers, 17 historic sites and one historic road were identified, but not assigned state site numbers, and 91 historic buildings were evaluated for National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility. None of the archaeological sites are eligible for the NRHP; however, the historic road, Territorial Road, is considered eligible. Cultural resources surveys have identified three historic buildings and 117 prehistoric and historic archaeological sites on Camp Grayling. Of these, 34 are potentially eligible to the NRHP and four are eligible.
