The dataset was compiled from multiple historical import interception data sources, including UKPHINS, EUROPHYT, and a global insect interception dataset derived from Turner et al. (2021). Source-specific pest names and detection counts were extracted, cleaned, combined, and summarized at the species level. For each species, the dataset includes the total number of detections across the compiled sources, the sources in which the species was detected, and derived scoring fields for downstream risk analysis. The Interception Evidence Flag is defined as: `ever_intercepted = 1 if total_detections > 0; otherwise 0` This flag indicates whether a pest has appeared at least once in the compiled historical interception datasets. The Detection Difficulty Score is defined as: `detection_difficulty_proxy = 1 - log1p(total_detections) / log1p(max_total_detections)` This score is an interception-derived proxy for detection difficulty. Pests with many historical detections receive lower detection difficulty scores, based on the assumption that repeatedly detected pests may be more readily detected by inspection systems. Pests with fewer detections receive higher scores, suggesting greater potential detection difficulty. These scores should be interpreted cautiously. Historical interception frequency is influenced by trade volume, inspection effort, commodity targeting, sampling intensity, reporting practices, source coverage, and pest detectability. A low number of detections does not necessarily mean that a pest is difficult to detect, and absence from this dataset does not mean that a pest has never been intercepted.
