Extreme Wind Speed Records in the Continental United States from 1973-2010

Extreme wind events associated with thunderstorms (convective events) in the United States from 1973 to 2010 were investigated. Data from the ISD 3505 dataset from NOAA was downloaded and searched for wind gust reports associated with convective events. A robust suite of wind gust speeds, directions, and timestamps were found and thunderstorm identifiers (1 or 0) were associated with these wind gusts through use of specific identification techniques. The data provided here can be re-used for other extreme wind climatology studies that require a geographic breadth and a relatively long time history.
