VPRS 13796 Health Register

This series known as a Health Register or a Registered Premises Register, provides a record of the registration of all properties and businesses required to be registered under the Health Act of 1919 (No.3041) and subsequent legislation. The proprietor was required to apply for registration and pay a registration fee as required. The local council could, if it chose to, inspect the premises and order any improvements to be made before it granted registration. Each entry usually gives details of the date of application for registration, name of the proprietor, the specific purpose for which the premises are used, date registration granted and details of the transfer of registration to another proprietor. These records have been identified as permanent under section 12.3.1 of the Public Record Office's Local Government Records General Disposal Schedule (PROS 98/01 Version 2002). Owners or lessees had to pass inspection in order to recew their permit. Details included in the register were: * Name of applicant * Location of business * Registration number and date * Date of transfer of registration.
