Liturgical shoes, probably Italian workshop, XIIth century. Dark red leather with fine golden skin applications, stitched with silk thread. Former abbey of Saint-Remacle de Stavelot, found in the old church of the Capuchins of Stavelot. Musée du Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium). Made with ReCap pro from AutoDesk. The liturgical sandals could only be worn during the celebration of the Mass. They were reserved for the bishops. Exceptionally, the pope could also grant this prerogative to an abbot.
