ATP wastage is recognized as an effective strategy to increase the metabolic activity and productivity of specific metabolites in certain microorganisms. To assess the consequences of ATP wastage on the central and specialized metabolisms of Streptomyces species, a small synthetic protein with high affinity for ATP and dephosphorylates it to ADP was overexpressed.
