Genetic variation in control and copper-resistant pools of Drosophila melanogaster from multiple natural populations

We collected flies from multiple natural populations with varying risk of exposure to heavy metal pollution. We performed pooled sequencing on a random set of females from each population and on females with high copper resistance. We used these data to identify SNPs that were associated with copper resistance to infer patterns of selection for heavy metal resistance. Our work reveals copper resistance is polygenic in natural populations, and many genetic variants have population-specific effects on copper resistance
