Soluble acidic gases at South Pole

We used the mist chamber sampling technique with analysis by ion chromatography to sample and quantify soluble acids at South Pole in December, 2000. Two samplers were operated simultaneously for the 2 week duration of the experiment, with nominal sampling interval of 30 minutes. One sampler remained 85 cm above the snow, the second used a 2 m long heated inlet that allowed sampling at multiple heights, ranging from 40 cm below the snow surface up to 85 cm above.
