本册志书为啮齿目(II),在中国(台湾资料暂缺)2019年以前所发现啮齿动物中的鼠超科(Muroidea)化石,计有8科121属316种。书中提供了科级以上阶元的定义、地史和地理分布,予以了研究历史、现状以及存在问题方面的概述;赋予了每一个属、种的鉴别特征和时空分布的详细内容;编者对各命名种的模式标本、产地和层位都做了翔实的考证和记述。在大部分阶元记述之后有编者在撰写过程中对发现的问题或认识的评注。书中附有342幅图件,以及学名索引、附表、附图和说明。 本书是国内外涉及地学、生物学、考古学的大专院校、科研机构、博物馆有关科研人员及业余古生物学爱好者的基础参考书,也可为科普创作提供必要的参考资料。

This volume of the monograph focuses on Rodentia (Part II), documenting fossil specimens of the superfamily Muroidea (rodents) discovered in China (data from Taiwan are temporarily unavailable) prior to 2019, comprising 8 families, 121 genera and 316 species. This work provides definitions, geological history and geographic distributions of taxa above the family level, as well as overviews of their research history, current status and existing issues. It also offers detailed descriptions of diagnostic characteristics, temporal and spatial distributions for each genus and species. The editors have conducted thorough textual research and documentation for the type specimens, type localities and stratigraphic horizons of all named species. Following the accounts of most taxa, the editors have added comments on the problems encountered or insights gained during the compilation process. The monograph includes 342 illustrations, as well as a scientific name index, supplementary tables, supplementary figures and their explanatory notes. This volume serves as a foundational reference for researchers and amateur paleontological enthusiasts from colleges and universities, research institutions and museums engaged in geosciences, biology and archaeology both domestically and internationally, and can also provide necessary reference materials for science popularization creation.
