Hybrid male sterility and genome-wide misexpression of male reproductive proteases. Drosophila pseudoobscura

The goal of this study was to assess gene expression in D p. pseudoobscura and D. p. bogotana males and sterile and fertile reciprocal F1 hybrid males. The goal was to detect misexpression unique to the sterile hybrid that might be causatively associated with sterility, and to differentiate that from sterility-independent misexpression linked to rapid male regulatory evolution (misexpression in both hybrids or unique to the fertile hybrid). The study revealed a link between sterility and protease misexpression. Regulatory evolution between these two species was also assayed.
