The MAT locus sequences of 22 Aspergillus niger isolates were extracted from complete genome sequences obtained with the Illumina technology and assembled using SPADes (data not published). In 18 out of the 22 A. niger isolates the MAT locus was distributed over multiple scaffolds. Diagnostic PCRs and subsequent sequencing was performed to restore in silico gaps within the MAT locus.
