Total RNA was extracted from prophase I meiocytes of three genotypes of sunflower (Helianthus annuus). The genotypes were an inbreed line, Ha89, a wild ancestor, Ac-8 and the F1 hybrid of the cross Ha89 x Ac-8. cDNA libraries were obtained and sequenced for each genotype. Sequences were assembled de novo and the reconstructed transcripts will be identified and differential expression for the genes will be evaluated.
