资源简介:
A scan of a photo of Pte John Price Jones (Mrs Jones' Dad), on horse. Jones had been a farmer at Diarth Farm, Llanyre, Llandrindod Wells Jones enlisted to join the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry, Private 2526. He was billeted at No 1 Llynddu Terrace, Welshpool, and was married from there on 15 July 1915 to Emily Howells of Tybrith Farm, Cloddia. "He fought on the trenches on the Somme from which he contracted Trench Feet Fever and had to be treated in hospital for it for some months before returning to the front. He was also in the battle of Ypres, a battle also fought in appalling conditions where the water level was just under the crust of the earth, so everywhere became a sea of mud from tanks, war machinery and horses churning it up. Mustard Gas was a weapon used by the Germans in this battle as well, and caused much distress to the forces fighting there and Pte J.P. Jones was one that got caught in one of those blasts and was hospitalised at Richmond in London for 6 weeks recuperation before returning to the front again." Part of collection that includes a photo of young men posing on the steps at Llandrindod Wells railway station after volunteering to join the army (1914).
