Datasets of surface water microbial populations from two anthropogenically impacted sites on the Bhagirathi-Hooghly River

Datasets describing microbial communities from the Bhagirathi-Hooghly River. The datasets provide baseline information on the resident microbial communities from two anthropogenically polluted sites along the lower stretch of the Bhagirathi-Hooghly River. Significant differences between the prokaryotic and eukaryotic populations exists between the two studies stations. Additionally, several members that may represent anthropogenic pollution at these studied stations were found. Differences in their abundances would hint toward local environmental variations found at the studied stations. Two phylograms described in this study shows the prokaryotic and eukaryotic groups identified in the study stations. The variation in abundances of the identified groups can be seen from the height of the bar in the heatmap. The colour legends show the number of unique sequences identified within the group.
