MORE THAN A PROFESSIONAL INSTRUMENT: THE MULTIFACETED IMPACT OF GLOBAL ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

This article examines the broader significance of learning English beyond its widely recognized role in career development. While English proficiency is often associated with increased employment opportunities and higher income, the paper argues that its impact extends into many other areas of personal and intellectual growth. The study explores how English provides access to global knowledge, scientific research, literature, digital resources, and cultural exchange. It also discusses the role of English as a lingua franca in international communication, travel, and the formation of cross-cultural relationships. Furthermore, the article highlights findings from bilingualism research, demonstrating that learning a second language may contribute to cognitive flexibility, executive functioning, and lifelong learning.
