Concentration of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) in Rivers, Lakes and Groundwater

BOD, Biological Oxygen Demand, gives an indication of the amount of organic matter present in water bodies. A certain amount of BOD is always present in water bodies, usually around 2 mg/l O2, while higher levels of BOD could imply that the water is contaminated with bacteria and thus pose a risk to human health.
