Gene database of Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris KW2

<i>Lactococcus lactis</i> is a Gram-positive, non-sporulating and non-motile bacterium important to the diary and cheese making industry. Not an opportunistic pathogen, the bacterium produces lactic acid from lactose that helps to curds milk in cheese making. This work presents the gene database of <i>L. lactis</i> KW2 that comprises gene name, gene function, and gene sequence. Using an in-house MATLAB genome analysis software, the annotated genome sequence of the bacterium downloaded from Genbank was parsed to yield the database. Overall, the gene database should provide foundational information of the genetic repertoire of <i>L. lactis</i> useful for understanding its physiology and metabolism.
