Employment in Agrifood System (AFS)

The Employment in Agrifood System (AFS) dataset, produced by the World Bank, is an annual panel covering 172 countries from 2000 to 2024. It includes two components: (i) the on-farm employment share—agriculture, forestry, and fishing—modelled by ILOSTAT data, and (ii) the off-farm employment share—food processing, food services, trade and transport, and input supply—modelled by the World Bank. Together, these components represent total AFS employment. The dataset allows tracking the evolution of on and off-farm employment separately over time. Estimates are based on a model fitted with detailed ISIC-code information for a subset of countries and years.
