Language Atlas of China

This dataset contains county level administrative units for 1990, with major language groups encoded to each, based on the Language Atlas of China. Full description of the project is found in the attached paper: \"Coding Scheme for the Language Atlas of China,\" By William Lavely (University of Washington), 2000. The original coding scheme contained ONLY Sinitic language group references. The remaining counties have been filled in with place-holder values (somewhat arbitrarily) by Lex Berman, who takes the blame for any mistakes. See the \"pseudo-codes\" definitions below to see the changes made. Note, the attributes also contain a column indicating whether the encoding attribution was compiled by William Lavely or Lex Berman.
