Post-wildfire Wetland Sediment Microbiomes Within the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest

To investigate the impact of wildfire on wetland (specifically beaver-created wetland) biogeochemistry, sediment and water samples were collected from a series of wetlands within the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in burned and unburned areas. The microbiome data resulting from sequencing DNA extracted from the sediment samples, coupled with high-resolution carbon chemistry data from surface water samples, provides insight into whether the convergence of wildfires and beaver ponds have important consequences for carbon and nitrogen cycling following wildfires.
