Pitfall Trap Images for Rutherglen Bug Detection

This dataset contains time-series images of pitfall traps collected at 5-minute intervals over an 8-week period from eight trap locations in canola and neighboring fields at the Tamworth Agricultural Institute, NSW, Australia. The primary target species is the Rutherglen bug (Nysius vinitor), with the objective of detecting individuals and identifying their movement patterns using machine learning and image processing techniques\nLineage: Data were collected at the Tamworth Agricultural Institute, NSW, Australia. The pitfall traps used in this study consisted of a metal cylinder with a rim holding a replaceable white plastic cup filled with trapping solution. To capture images of the pitfall traps at regular intervals, a camera setup was implemented. This setup comprised a metal frame for mounting the camera, with a 12MP Digital Outdoor Waterproof Trail Camera (manufactured by Shenzhen Redleaf Technology Industry Co., Ltd). Data collection spanned from November 14, 2023, to January 9, 2024, covering an 8-week period. Images of the pitfall traps were captured at 5-minute intervals, with traps replaced approximately weekly and transported to the laboratory for manual counting. Simultaneously, the SD cards in the cameras were replaced.
