Far North Coast - Dairying Better and Better for Our Soil and Nutrients

This project will accelerate the uptake of improved soil and nutrient management practices by the dairying community in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. The project will utilise expertise from the Dairying Better ‘n Better program to establish a demonstration farm that will complete a Soil and Nutrient Management Plan and trial the use of nitrification inhibitors to improve nutrient use efficiency. Through training events, support with soil testing and technical aspects, and regionally specific extension material, farmers will learn how to develop paddock-scale nutrient budgets and analyse options for re-using nutrients on-farm. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve soil health and influence practice change over 500 ha.
