Glarea lozoyensis 74030 Genome sequencing and assembly

The anamorphic fungus Glarea lozoyensis produces a family of structurally-related metabolites known as the pneumocandins along to echinocandin family. The strain 74030 is a pneumocandin B0 overproducer (the semi-derivative synthesized from pneumocandin Bo is known as caspofungin and is sold as the intraveneous antifungal drug Cancidas) and a potent inhibitor of glucan synthesis with fungicidal activity against clinically important pathogens. These acylated, cyclic hexapeptides are interesting in that they contain a number of unusual hydroxylated amino acids. The pneumocandins are presumed to be synthesized via a non-ribosomal peptide synthetase.
