In order to study the effects of drought on the bacterial community, 10 intact soil monoliths (50x50x70 cm) with their native vegetation were sampled from a beech plot in the Hainich exploratory and transferred to the greenhouse. To assess the community structure of the metabolically active bacteria, 16S rRNA was analyzed via MiSeq-based (Illumina) high throughput sequencing at three different time points (before and after drought treatment).
