IIST BCI Dataset-13: A BCI Dataset for Emotion Detection for Human Space Missions

Human space exploration has gained much popularity over the last six decades. Ensuring the well-being of astronauts is as important as building a spacecraft. This is the motivation behind the development of this dataset. This dataset captures the neural activity corresponding to the three basic emotions: (i) happiness, (ii) sadness, and (iii) fear. The dataset is created by invoking the emotions of volunteers through audiovisual cues. For each emotion, 8 readings were taken, resulting in 24 readings from a single volunteer. Across 3 emotions and 11 volunteers, a total of 264 readings of neural activity were taken. Each reading contains the data for 8 channels. In addition to its application in human space missions, this dataset can also be used for emotion detection by using brain signals along with other applications such as mental health monitoring, human-computer interface, adaptive gaming, etc.
