THE FLIPPED CLASSROOM MODEL IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF ADVANTAGES AND CHALLENGES.

Abstract: This thesis examines the advantages and challenges of implementing the flipped classroom model in foreign language teaching. The flipped classroom inverts traditional instruction by delivering content outside the classroom—typically via digital media—while using in-class time for interactive, application-based activities. The analysis identifies four key advantages: maximized in-class communicative practice, enhanced learner autonomy and self-pacing, increased target language exposure with reduced anxiety, and improved differentiation through formative assessment. However, the model also presents significant challenges: student resistance and inconsistent preparation, the digital divide and technical barriers, substantial instructor workload, and assessment accountability issues. Drawing on recent literature and six integrated citations, the thesis concludes that while the flipped classroom offers transformative potential for communicative language education, its success depends on strategic implementation, equitable access to technology, and institutional support for instructors.
