Repeated_cross_sectional_survey_of_meningococcal_carriage_in_Burkina_Faso

Meningococcal disease is a major public health challenge in countries of sub-Saharan Africa lying in the meningitis belt. The causative agent, Neisseria meningitidis (Nm) normally lives in a commensal relationship with humans, colonising the nasopharynx and is transmitted between healthy people by close contact. Only exceptionally it enters the bloodstream and causes disease, mainly meningitis and/or septicaemia. This study comprises whole genome sequencing of a collection of carriage isolates from Burkino Faso together with concomitant patient isolates.
