Long sediment cores were taken from the bottom of several high altitude Andean Lagoons. These were subsequently segmented and analyzed lengthwise at intervals of 1 or 2 centimeters. Several physical and chemical analysis were performed and total DNA was also extracted for amplicon and shotgun sequencing
