PA's National Natural Landmarks

A National Natural Landmark is a nationally significant natural area that has been designated by the Secretary of the Interior. To be nationally significant, an area has to be one of the best examples of a type of biological community or geological feature in a physiographic province. Pennsylvania has 12 National Natural Landmarks, 7 of which are State Parks. The goals of the National Natural Landmark program: To encourage the preservation of sites illustrating the geological and ecological character of the United States. To enhance the scientific and educational value of sites thus reserved. To strengthen public appreciation of natural history.
