资源简介:
This collection comprises images from an archaeological watching brief and historic building survey at the Bothy, Croome, Worcestershire, the work was undertaken by Worcestershire Archaeology in 2020. The project was commissioned by Nick Joyce Architects, on behalf of their client Mr Chris Cronin, in advance of an extension to the building, for which planning permission was granted, subject to archaeological conditions. The building was previously a single storey workshop associated with the walled garden of the Croome Estate. The building had been converted for residential use in 2010. It falls within the curtilage of the Grade II listed Walled Gardens and is within the grounds of the grade I listed manor house and parklands of Croome Court. A 1m square test pit was excavated in the location of the proposed extension to the Bothy. This revealed the brick floor and footings of a former the internal wall to the original workshop. The bedding layer for the brick floor included sherds of pottery dating to the first half of the 20th Century, consistent with the date of the known workshop, which originally had a further western wing. No further archaeological finds, features or deposits were evident from the watching brief. An Historic England level 1 historic building record was also carried out to preserve a record of the building's appearance prior to the construction of the extension.
