Five archaeological sites represent Taino occupation in Jamaica during the late prehistoric
period, dating between 900 and 1500 AD. Eight pollen samples were examined from cultural
contexts within middens from these five sites to examine plants that were discarded. Pollen
analysis was undertaken to identify both local vegetation and plants that were used and
subsequently discarded in the middens during the Taino occupations.
