Collection of marine microorganisms that degradate biodegradable plastics

Microorganisms attached to the surface of biodegradable plastics immersed in the Japanese coast have been isolated. The biodegradation activity of these strains will be tested and characterized using various methods. Genome sequences will be determined for strains of particular interest and might be further used for the development of new materials and biodegradation test methods.
