资源简介:
In April 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the Adjutant General’s Department of Texas (AGTX) at Camp Mabry, the Texas Archaeological Research Laboratory, and the Texas Historical Commission in Austin to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on Army National Guard facilities in the state. This document reports the history of cultural investigations on federally owned or supported Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) facilities, lists archaeological sites and historic buildings recorded within facility boundaries, discusses historic contexts and predictive models, and provides a list of Native American tribes that may be potentially culturally affiliated to archaeological collections recovered from TXARNG facilities. To date, 483 historic properties, including archaeological sites, historic buildings, and isolated artifact finds, have been recorded on Bradley Fighting Vehicle Driver Training Site, Camp Barkeley, Camp Bowie, Camp Mabry, Camp Maxey, Camp Swift, Fort Wolters, L-7 Ranch, and Saginaw Army Aircraft Plant. Of these 483 historic properties, 58 are considered contributing elements to two historic districts. One of these, the Camp Mabry Historic District, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on August 30, 1996. Six additional TXARNG sites have been deemed eligible for listing or inclusion the NRHP, as well as ten structures on Saginaw Army Aircraft Plant which are considered eligible as contributing to a historic district. St. Louis District personnel found no documentation regarding cultural resource work on Addicks Training Site, Baker Dam Drop Zone, La Reforma Training Area, or Panhandle Training Area, and no known sites or historic buildings are known to have been recorded on these facilities. The extent, nature, and location of archaeological collections recovered from work conducted on TXARNG facilities will be determined in the second phase of this project, to be completed during Fiscal Year 1999.
