Reproducibility code for: Divergent Trajectories in Dementia-Relevant Modifiable Risk Factors Among Adults in Brazilian State Capitals: A VIGITEL Surveillance Analysis, 2006–2024

This repository contains the complete, base-R analysis pipeline (R 4.3.3; packages stats and splines only, no external dependencies) used to produce every prevalence estimate, model statistic, and sensitivity analysis reported in the accompanying manuscript, "Divergent Trajectories in Dementia-Relevant Modifiable Risk Factors Among Adults in Brazilian State Capitals: A VIGITEL Surveillance Analysis, 2006–2024." The pipeline processes publicly released microdata from VIGITEL (Vigilância de Fatores de Risco e Proteção para Doenças Crônicas por Inquérito Telefônico), Brazil's national telephone-based chronic-disease surveillance system, covering 2006–2024. It reproduces: annual weighted prevalence of six risk-factor indicators (smoking, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, heavy episodic drinking, physical inactivity) by age band; natural cubic spline models of temporal trend shape; a Kish effective-sample-size sensitivity analysis; a formal test of whether temporal trajectories differ between age bands; sensitivity analyses restricted to shorter time periods; and age-standardized prevalence estimates. The raw VIGITEL microdata are not redistributed here and must be downloaded separately from the Brazilian Ministry of Health (https://svs.aids.gov.br/daent/cgdnt/vigitel/). Running the included run_all.R script against that file reproduces every table (results/) referenced in the manuscript and its supplementary material.
