Gemmatomyces is a new genus of the family Capnodiaceae (order Capnodiales, class Dothideomycetes) isolated from a saltmarsh soil in Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Phylogenetically, it grouped into the Capnodiaceae, a family whose members are commonly known as sooty molds, and characterized to form a dark network of hyphae on the surface of living leaves and twigs of many plants, often associated with insects´ sugary exudates.
