Polly Tell Us - The Regent Parrot Register

The Regent Parrot (Eastern sub-species), Polytelis anthopeplus monarchoides, is listed as Vulnerable in South Australia. This sub-species is found in an area overlapping the junction of the SA, Victorian and NSW borders. It nests in hollows in River Red Gums and feeds in other habitat types such as mallee woodlands and floodplains. This parrot is under threat from habitat loss, illegal destruction, drought and human disturbance around nests. Less than 400 adult breeding pairs remain in the South Australian River Murray corridor and numbers are declining. Regent parrot observations recorded here will be provided to the Recovery Team and will help them with planning their recovery actions. Every recorded sighting of these birds is valuable and information on their feeding habits is of particular interest.
