Bulk materials (powders) and thin films were prepared by sol-gel co-condensation of 11-(triethoxysilyl)methylundecanoate with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). Modifications of the surface were achieved by chemical treatment with AlI3. These powders and thin films were used to study the absorption affects of lanthanide cations from aqueous solutions.
