The epitope sequence is repeated within the protein antigen. Sera from patients with HIV (0/20), HCV (0/20), HTLV-1 (0/20), toxoplasmosis (0/20), and leprosy (0/6) did not react with the epitope. Recognition was not increased to various constructs of the epitope coupled with another immunodominant B cell epitope from T. cruzi, AEPKPAEPKS.
