Kelp forests are key coastal ecosystems that support biodiversity, enhance coastal protection, and contribute to carbon sequestration. Along the Moroccan Atlantic coast, species such as Laminaria ochroleuca and Saccorhiza polyschides remain poorly studied, despite their high sensitivity to climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressures. This study proposes an integrated and innovative approach to address this knowledge gap by combining (i) spatio-temporal mapping of kelp populations. analysis of environmental drivers shaping their distribution, and (iii) investigation of their physiological and reproductive mechanisms. In parallel, this work explores, for the first time in Morocco, the development of a pilot strategy for kelp domestication and cultivation. By bridging fundamental research and applied perspectives, this study aims to provide a scientific basis for the conservation of vulnerable kelp ecosystems while supporting the emergence of a sustainable seaweed aquaculture sector within the blue economy framework.
