资源简介:
This dataset from sheep (Ovis aries) consists of a selection of bright-field microscopic images of Timm-thionin- and Golgi-stained histological sections from alternating blocks cut transverse to the long axis of the isolated hippocampi. Timm-thionin-stained sections show blue cell somata and black zinc-containing axonal terminals that occur scattered along the entire length of both main mossy fibres and their collaterals thus making them traceable, although the fibres themselves remain largely unstained. Golgi-impregnated sections show the morphology of randomly stained cell bodies and dendrites with postsynaptic excrescences, as well as unmyelinated axons, including mossy fibres and their collaterals with presynaptic boutons and varicosities. This combination of staining methods provides cyto- and fibroarchitectonic features suitable for exploring the microscopic architecture and localizing the border between the dentate gyrus and cornu Ammonis 3.
