South African Theileria parva isolates

The biology of Theileria parva makes routine genome sequencing difficult since schizonts contain contaminating host genomic material, while merozoites occur at very low parasitaemia that impact yields attained from whole blood. Effective methods for routine genome sequencing is therefore necessary if genome sequencing is to be utilized for the purposes of diagnostics as well as genetic diversity or population genomics studies of T. parva. The objective of the study was to develop a method to capture the T. parva genome directly from cell cultures and blood samples using enrichment system for whole genome sequencing.
