We propose to obtain a complete X-ray census for the stellar associationVolans-Carina. This kinematically defined co-moving (and thus joinly born) groupof stars has a critical age (~ 90 Myr) for our understanding of the seculardecay of X-ray activity and is uniquely close (~ 85 pc) such that all itslow-mass members (down to ~ 0.1 M_sun) can be detected with XMM-Newton. Thissurvey complements eROSITA measurements at the faint low-mass end of the stellarmass sequence and crucially allows us to address the mass-dependent age-decayof coronal activity which constrains the stellar dynamo and the evolution ofplanet atmospheres.
