The analyses of bloodmeal of tsetse flies caught in their natural environments provide information about both transmitted pathogens and their vertebrate hosts. Haematophagous invertebrates could be used as “vertebrate samplers” and deliver DNA-based information on many aspects of vertebrate ecology.
