资源简介:
This project examines the impact of sea-level rise (SLR) on the psychological health of coastal populations. We conducted a longitudinal study involving 1,144 participants from various communities with differing vulnerabilities to SLR in Bangladesh. Data collection occurred before (March-April) and after (October-November) the monsoon season of 2021. Results indicated a significant increase in psychological distress, depression, anxiety, and stress in the post-monsoon period, particularly in communities more vulnerable to SLR. Environmental stressors and resource losses were more pronounced post-monsoon in moderate and highly vulnerable areas, and these factors mediated the impact on psychological health. Additionally, a decrease in resilience and an increase in COVID-19 anxiety were observed across all communities, with higher anxiety levels farther from the coast. This research highlights the connection between environmental stress, resource loss, and psychological outcomes, offering insights for developing interventions and policies to support the wellbeing of populations at increased risk from SLR.
