An exploration of competence among hospital emergency nurses in the context of armed conflict

Nurses play major roles in managing the effects of disasters, yet little is known about the core competencies of emergency nurses in the context of armed conflict. This study aimed to explore competence by mixed method approach in the southern border areas of Saudi Arabia with Yemen. The predominant core competency recommended by participants was strong leadership, reported to improve outcomes of care and team experiences. Core competencies should be included in the response plan for emergency nurses in the context of armed conflict to enhance their preparedness and response and are likely to inform their education and overall preparation.
