Occurrence dataset of the non-native green mussel Perna viridis along the Brazilian coast

This dataset compiles 195 georeferenced occurrence records of the non-native green mussel Perna viridis along the Brazilian coast. It integrates geographical, temporal, ecological, and bibliographical information obtained from published literature, citizen-science platforms, and field sampling conducted as part of the associated study. The dataset accompanies the article “Spread of the invasive green mussel Perna viridis (L.) within Todos os Santos Bay marks a new northern invasion front in Brazil: molecular confirmation, distribution modelling, and evidence of artisanal harvest” The Excel file contains 14 fields: Record, Location, State, Latitude, Longitude, Record date, year, Number of Individuals, Substrate, Source, Reference, URL, gbifID, and GenBank number. For each occurrence, the dataset provides information on locality, Brazilian state, geographical coordinates, date or year of observation, number of individuals, associated substrate, record source, and bibliographical reference, whenever available. Coordinates are expressed in decimal degrees and were extracted from the original sources or estimated from locality descriptions when precise coordinates were not reported. Links to the original sources, GBIF identifiers, and GenBank accession numbers are also provided when available. This dataset is intended to support assessments of the documented distribution and spatiotemporal spread of P. viridis in Brazil, as well as monitoring and management initiatives targeting marine non-native species. It may be used in biogeographical, invasion-ecology, and geospatial studies, for comparisons among introduction and range-expansion events, and for integration with national and global biodiversity information systems.
