Attitudes towards emergency medicine residency in Slovenia, 2023

One of the pillars of the Slovene-based network of emergency services is the availability of emergency medicine specialists. Due to waning interest in this residency and the entry of new generations into the labour market, it is crucial to identify their perspectives on the residency of emergency medicine. It is vital to create an environment that will be welcoming to future generations of medical professionals and, therefore, will enable enough specialists to ensure that emergency medical treatment is efficiently provided to the citizens of Slovenia. A questionnaire was sent out to the medical school students (from the University of Ljubljana and Maribor) and doctors who had not yet taken a residency decision. The goal was to identify and propose systemic solutions that would increase interest and enrolment in emergency medicine residency.
