This protocol outlines a workflow optimized for narrow-ringed, diffuse-porous trees and shrub forms (e.g., Betula, Salix, Acer). The workflow is also suitable for slow growing and/or small specimen of other species, for instance seedlings of coniferous species. The workflow described is the default in the COAT dendrolab at NINA Tromsø, for processing cross sections and increment cores of arctic trees and shrubs.
